History
Created in 2001 from a wish expressed by the City of Gatineau that wanted to see a new event emerged within its limits that would bring together kids of all ages for a series of family-oriented, interactive and creative activities, Wonders of Sand soon became the sand sculpting event to discover.
From its first inception, many professional sand sculptors were happy to take part in the creation of incredible masterpieces. Interactive demonstrations were soon joined by different sculpting contests which in turn allowed participants of all ages to learn specific techniques and develop an interest for this new kind of art form.
To this day, Wonders of Sand continues to welcome some of the best sand sculptors from around the country, but as of 2009, they now have to face a brand new challenge: they now must work in collaboration with the event’s organizing committee in order to bring to life the new annual theme brought forth during the creation process, which makes their work even more challenging and even more rewarding.
